My approach integrates several different modalities based on your preference and individualized needs. My primary therapy modality is EMDR due to it's efficacy in reducing physical, emotional, and cognitive distress as a result of past hurts. I also use CBT, DBT, ACT, and Mindfulness regularly in my practice.
Approaches
EMDR: EMDR was developed by Francine Shapiro and is a leading treatment for those who have experienced adversity and trauma. Through use of eye-movements or bilateral tapping, one can reprocess past memories of trauma to reduce emotional distress, uncomfortable physical sensations, and negative self-talk. See more information about EMDR here.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy: ACT is an acceptance based model created by Steven Hayes that teaches about the importance of living in accordance with values and accepting what we cannot change. As a client participating in ACT therapy, you would be expected to identify values, discuss barriers that prevent living in accordance with those values, practice acceptance of things outside of your control, and make lifestyle changes.
DBT: DBT nicely expands perspective by providing alternate scenarios through use of dialectics and accompanying skills. Created by Marsha Linehan, this modality offers several coping skills to use in extremely emotional moments as well as times of conflict. The coping skills fall into the following categories: interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness.
CBT: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has been proven to effectively reduce emotional suffering resulting from anxiety, depression, and trauma related disorders. This process involves examining the interconnections between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to better understand patterns, triggers, and ways to implement changes.
